Arley Homes wins regional building award

November 2009

Arley Homes has been named as one of the regional winners in the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards (PIJ) for its fantastic Churchfields development in Harwood, near Bolton. Site manager Bill Wilson picked up a Seal of Excellence award and one of only four North West Regional Winner Awards at a glittering ceremony in Manchester.

Bill is thrilled with the accolade. He said: “Arley has always had a commitment to building high quality, family homes, that’s how we design them and our buyers tell us they appreciate our attention to detail. So it is hugely rewarding to also be recognised by our own industry.

“I was delighted to win a Seal of Excellence but when I was called up to the stage once again to collect the Regional Award, I was speechless. I was so proud to accept it on behalf of everyone at Arley Homes.”

Bill was in the running having been handed the NHBC Quality Award earlier this year, in recognition of the exceptional standard of Churchfields, a stunning bespoke development of 18 family homes on the edge of the Lancashire countryside. He was entered in the Small Housebuilder section and has now been put forward to the national final in January as one of only nine regional candidates in the category, having been chosen from thousands of site managers around the UK.

In their assessment, the judging panel referred to both the project management and the aesthetics of the development. Ian Davies, NHBC Regional Director for the North West, said: “Bill works on a tight site, so excellent organisation skills are key to running the operation. On site, there is a mix of traditional stonework and modern methods of construction which caught the judges' eye, along with an excellent standard of internal finishes. Bill's site certainly has the wow factor and he deserves this Pride in the Job win.”

To qualify, each site manager undergoes spot checks and individual assessment which includes their technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and the quality controls they have in place. More than 13,000 UK site managers enter each year with only one regional winner chosen in each of the four categories, small, medium, large and multi-storey housebuilder.

John Cosgrave, managing director of Arley Homes, added: “This is a fantastic achievement for Bill and the whole team who worked extremely hard to ensure the Churchfields development is not only built to high standards, but that it is an attractive and desirable place to live.

“Winning the Seal of Excellence was an incredible boost for the team, but then to walk away with the Regional Award in our category was a wonderful experience. I am pleased the hard work and dedication which goes into building Arley’s beautiful family homes has been recognised by the industry organisation responsible for quality.

“This is a reflection of our aim to achieve high standards across all of our developments and I’m delighted this development has been defined as one of the best nine sites in its category in the country.”
